The expectations of the food and service increase when you visit a restaurant that has a $$$ next to its name. I couldn’t be more disappointed.
Out of the 6 dishes we ordered, we did enjoy the toothfish and the spicy kingfish uramaki. The king prawn tempura was just alright.
The pink snapper in the medium sashimi had a strong fishy aftertaste which was not pleasant at all. The Wagyu beef skewer was hard to chew.
Cannot really say much about the service and the atmosphere as both were fairly basic. For a restaurant with a three dollar sign, I couldn’t understand why they serve customers with instant chopsticks. It is located inside the Entertainment Precinct and tucked away in a small corner with some old building outside the window that looks like about to collapse in any minute. The seating is just like a sushi train place. I literally can smell the fish that the chef was preparing.
They also accidentally put someone else’s mineral water on our bill.
This is my 3rd or 4th visit to sushi e, and after also eating at Nobu in the last 24 hours I was compelled to write this review.
It is far superior in every way, and still the best sushi experience I have had in Sydney.
Incredible intimate vibes with service that is an 11 of 10, and food that will never disappoint.
Highly recommend, and plan on grabbing a drink after at hemisphere. Hard to find a better night out than that pair
Another Merivale restaurant of course it’s going to be good. The service was fantastic and food was okay but nothing you couldn’t find at other Japanese eateries. The otoro was nothing special it didn’t really melt in your mouth like usual.
The restaurant is quite small so I’d definitely recommend you to make a booking.
It’s located where the establishment precinct is you need to go up the lift to get there.
The best tooth fish we ever had !
Love all waitress’s outfit.
Only thing that needs to be improved is the chopsticks, they look too cheap for the restaurant.
I had an absolutely delightful experience at Sushi e. The Wagyu Uramaki was nothing short of amazing - it was so tender and flavorful. The No.1 non-alcoholic cocktail was the perfect accompaniment to my meal - it was refreshingly delicious!
The vibe at Sushi e was simply amazing - the ambiance was great and it was the perfect place to catch up with friends.
Booked an early dinner for two, and took the premium tasting menu. The quality of food was lacklustre - whilst presented somewhat well, flavour profiles lacked complexity and were at times confusing (e.g. use of sesame seeds which overpowered the sashimi, chilli masking the taste of scampi). We were not impressed (and quite offended) when we got a bowl of rice for sharing - it was jasmine grain, which we thought was astoundingly poor form for a Japanese restaurant.
The pace for serving food was not good, as some of the items (particularly mains) served was cold by the time we got to it. The waitress looking after us was warm and attentive; however I did not enjoy having the Japanese chef where we sat, as I felt his service to be proactively chilly (e.g. food was presented with no indication of whether it was for us).
Overall, it was disappointing for an evening of celebration. I would not recommend this place because there were hardly any redeeming qualities for both hard and soft products offered (besides the venue being quite lovely to chill for an evening).
We tried a few things: sushi, karage, beef - all good and tasty, nothing too memorable though.
Sushi is made in front of you, other food is provided by a kitchen somewhere else.
The open hall next to dining area is comfortable for after dinner drinks.
I just had a dinner and a great night here.
Nice environment on the top of the Establishment.
Waitress was so polite helping us with our choices, easy to talk to and with a good memory. Food was cooked in front of us, which helped as well to understand exactly what we could have eaten.
We spent 2 hours eating great food. The dessert suggested by our waitress was amazing!
It’s an expensive restaurant but totally worth it.
